Rabi Lamichhane Resigns as Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of Nepal

Katmandu,  Rabi Lamichhane, the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of Nepal, has resigned from his post. The resignation came after a meeting with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda at the latter’s residence in Baluwatar, where Lamichhane submitted his resignation.

Lamichhane, who rose to prominence in Nepal politics in a relatively short amount of time, formed the National Independent Party on June 22, 2022. He was elected as a member of parliament from Chitwan Region No. 2 in the House of Representatives election held on November 20. In the election, his party emerged as the fourth largest in the country, and he was appointed as Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister on December 26.

However, the Supreme Court of Nepal decided to revoke his position as a member of parliament in a case related to a citizenship dispute. This decision ultimately led to Lamichhane’s resignation.

The resignation of Lamichhane, a rising political star, has come as a shock to many in the country, and it remains to be seen how this will impact the political landscape in Nepal.
