Different types of cultural festivals are celebrated in Nepal. Lhosar is one of them, and it is the new year of the Sherpa, Tamang, Gurung, Dura, Lepcha and Bhote communities. There are three types of Lhosar, Tola Lhosar, Sonam Lhosar and Galbo Lhosar, and each year Lhosar is celebrated on a different date. On Sonam Lhosar, Nepal government gives a public holiday.

Sonam Lhosar is the year of the wooden horse. Lhosar is celebrated by visiting monasteries and stupas where special rituals are performed with mask dances to ward off evil spirits. On the other hand, the Tamang community keeps the house and surroundings clean to welcome the gods and goddesses.

Pork, chicken, meat, fish and sweet desert are consumed in Sonam Lhosar. Apart from this, traditional songs of Tamang are played on tamang cello and damfu (musical instrument). Tamang cello transcends linguistic and cultural boundaries. and social boundaries. It is one of the popular music of Nepal.

Tamang people wear their traditional clothes and jewelry, participate in various cultural events and exchange greetings with each other. Sonam Lhosar brings a lot of joy and happiness, as well as unites people from other communities with the Tamang community.
