Falgun 1st : public holiday in Bagmati province

Hetauda – The government of Bagmati province has announced a public holiday on February 1 on the occasion of People’s War Day.

Anushil Sapkota, Deputy Secretary and Spokesperson of the Ministry informed that according to the decision of the cabinet meeting held on Magh 24th, there will be a public holiday in Bagmati province on the occasion of People’s War Day on Falgun 1st.

People’s War Day

1 Falgun 2052 BS, the then rebel CPN-Maoist started an armed rebellion in Nepal by attacking the police stations of Rolpa, Sindhuli and Gorkha saying that the Constituent Assembly should draft a constitution, end the monarchy and establish a democratic system. The armed rebellion was formally ended after a detailed peace agreement was signed on 5th Mangsir 2063.

The Maoists have been celebrating the day the armed uprising began as People’s War Day.
